If voters in state House District 56 think their ballot choices look familiar, they're right.
This race is a rematch between Democratic incumbent Michelle Mussman and Republican challenger Jillian Rose Bernas, both of Schaumburg.
We endorse Bernas, who has government experience as a Schaumburg Township District Library trustee and on the township's mental health committee. She's bilingual, a former teacher and has lots of civic involvement.
Mussman is likable and thoughtful and similarly involved in the community. But we think Bernas will bring a fresh viewpoint and independence that will better serve the district and help bring much-needed change to Springfield.
